SEO Kelowna – The Ultimate Guide! Pt 2
SEO Kelowna – The Ultimate Guide – pt 2
Google is constantly updating their search algorythms for who shows up when your customers search online. In their most recent updates, if you search for a local business or service, google shows local results. So now the chances are if you search for something that has local intent behind it in Kelowna, Vernon, Kamloops or Penticton, you won’t see websites from Vancouver or Merritt, you’ll see websites from Kelowna, Vernon, Kamloops or Penticton. This gives local businesses and businesses with good local seo a real edge
So regardless of the sort of audience you’re after, local seo is a key part of your Kelowna SEO strategy.
This week we continue our Ultimate SEO Guide for Kelowna SEO with part 2. Click here if you missed part 1 of the Ultimate Kelowna SEO Guide
Local SEO Kelowna Guide Area #2 – LOCAL CONTENT
Todays topic for SEO moves on from the text on your homepage to focus on other ways of ranking on google for Kelowna SEO or for Okanagan SEO.
The first thing to focus on when designing and optimising a website for SEO is your homepage text, but what do you do if you want visitors to see your business for more than one keyword? What if you own a bakery and want to show up for both “Kelowna Bakers” and “Best bread Kelowna”? Or what if you’ve already optimised the text on your homepage but aren’t seeing the results you’re looking for?
Our next step is creating localised content for your website. Aka – Blogging. Blogging allows you to create more content for your website which can give google more keywords and information about your business to show customers. Remember, the more google sees of one topic on your website, the more authority and relevance on the topic they’re going to assume you have. So having one homepage with “Kelowna Bakery” featured in your text is great, having 10 blog posts on different bakers in Kelowna, different kinds of Kelowna baked goods, tips on baking great Kelowna bread etc is going to give you 10x more traction, and also broaden the likelihood your website shows up when someone is looking for anything to do with baking in Kelowna.
Depending on your business you may or may not have obvious topics to blog about, but given some creative thinking ANY business has many great options. Wedding planners can post great photoshoot locations in Kelowna, wedding planning tips for Okanagan brides etc. Building companies can write about Kelowna Real Estate, New Kelowna developments and recent projects.
But lets say your business is really, REALLY tough to think of relevant content. What do you do then?
One of the easiest ways to produce content is to reuse existing local articles and bring a fresh perspective. You can blog about local events in your community, recent projects, client testimonials or tips and tricks in your business. Sit down for 5 minutes and write as many different topics you can possibly think of, then grab 4 of the easiest and get to work!
The key to results is choosing topics that have a narrow focus. If you’re a local Kelowna artist, don’t write a blog post on “10 tips to paint better” – This kind of post might see some results, but if you’re after local business, you need to choose local topics. “10 best places to get inspired in Kelowna” would be a way better fit. If you’re a Kelowna travel agent, a blog post on “10 awesome vacations in Mexico” wouldn’t get you a lot of local customers. That said, “10 best kelowna flight deals this winter” would be a VERY good topic that lots of people are searching for.
Blogging is one of the all time greatest ROI there is when it comes to SEO and marketing (For instance this post is exactly that!) We aren’t trying to sell you anything, just to help you understand Kelowna SEO and Kelowna Website Design, but in the process we hope you check out our work and see what we have to offer. Its win-win.
Writing great articles takes time, but don’t let it overwhelm you. A lot of time can be saved by using a different approach or delegating. Certain posts take much longer than others. Taking an existing article and sharing your thoughts on it is a lot faster than writing down to write a gigantic Kelowna SEO guide. That said, the more helpful and insightful your content, the better your results are likely to be. Blogging for SEO is an amazing strategy, and one of our top Kelowna SEO tips.
As we said in part 1 of our Ultimate Kelowna SEO Guide, the key to all SEO is intention. Just writing blog posts doesn’t guarantee success. Posts need to be helpful, interesting, informative and relevant. They also need to be specific to the area and customers you’re trying to reach. When creating a Kelowna blog or doing Kelowna SEO this is the main thing to keep in mind. Your article might be the greatest Kelowna blogpost out there, but if its not actually being seen by anybody, its not worth a penny.
